to modifylifestyleinitiatives In his speech to the participants at the public health outreach in the Riobara area, Dr Peter Ongwae Aondo (DrPoa) a public health pharmacist emphasized the significant benefits of adhering to lifestyle modifications for improving overall health.
He outlined key changes, including engaging in regular physical activity, consuming a healthy diet rich in low-calorie foods, vegetables, legumes, fruits, and nuts, while avoiding harmful habits such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and substance abuse.
The expert highlighted how these modifications can effectively reduce the incidence of chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, certain cancers, and cognitive decline, including dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
He pointed out the findings from a recent survey in the Bosansa area, revealing that 65% of those screened had hypertension, with 82% unaware of their condition. Given that accepting and implementing lifestyle changes is often a gradual process, he stressed the importance of community education, screening, and ongoing monitoring.
The speaker concluded by noting that lifestyle modifications act as a singular intervention capable of addressing multiple health issues simultaneously, potentially reducing the need for various medications in clinical settings and inspiring ongoing research into simplified treatments for non-communicable diseases.
